Synopsis

Bear Grylls turns his survival format over to the viewer: across eight missions, from jungle rescues to alpine crossings, Grylls looks straight into the camera and asks what you want him to do next. Scale the cliff or follow the coastline, eat the grub or go hungry, and he commits to your call on the spot, with wrong choices rewinding rather than ending the mission, because the point is the adventure and not the fail state. Marketed as the heir to Bandersnatch and the first interactive series in the reality genre, it was created by Grylls with Robert Buchta and Delbert Shoopman and spawned a full franchise: the films Animals on the Loose and Out Cold, plus the Indian spin-off Ranveer vs. Wild. It survived Netflix's December 2024 purge as one of the last four interactive titles, then in January 2025 the interactive versions were removed and replaced with linear cuts, ending the experiment Grylls had fronted for six years.

How the Branching Works

You vs. Wild features 8 distinct endings. At key decision points the film pauses and presents your options, your choice determines which scene plays next, reshaping alliances, outcomes, and the story's resolution. With 19 minutes of total footage spread across these branches, a single viewing reveals only a fraction of what the film contains.
