The Best Interactive Movie Games: 13 That Actually Let You Steer
Most interactive movie games fake your agency. Thirteen that don't: Late Shift, Immortality, The Quarry, She Sees Red, and one you play by talking out loud.
Version 1.6 is live on the App Store, and it changes the part of Treezy that people react to most: the phone call.
Characters have been FaceTiming you mid-story since launch. Until now, you answered them the way you answer an app, by tapping. In 1.6, you answer them the way you'd answer a person. You talk.
The call is a real conversation
Pick up Dr. Tiffany Belle's call and just say what you think. She's listening, and the story follows your lead. Your actual words decide which way the scene breaks; there's no menu waiting underneath, no "press 1 to agree." Say yes in whatever words you'd really use and she takes it as a yes. Tell her no and the film goes where a no goes.
If she doesn't catch what you meant, she does what anyone would: asks again, in character, and keeps listening. The story never stalls waiting for you to find the right phrase.
That's the whole idea behind the design language we call Cinema, an interactive film shouldn't feel like an app that happens to play video. It should feel like it's in the room with you.
🎬 Watch the trailer, one minute, and you'll see what we mean.
Captions, made yours
Closed captions are here, and they're properly yours: turn them on, then choose the size, color, and background until they sit right against the film. A caption should be readable without pulling you out of the scene, and that means different things on a phone in a bright room than it does in a dark room at night.
A cinematic open
Every show now starts with a proper opening-titles sequence before the first frame of story. Films earn their opening. Ours does now too.
A smoother show
The unglamorous work that makes the rest land:
- Choices route to the right scene, every time.
- Trailers end cleanly instead of bleeding into the next beat.
- Your self-view camera sits the right way up during calls.
- Fixed crashes around playback and returning to the app.
